The international symposium "Self-organization and Emergent Dynamics in Active Soft Matter" will be held in Feb. 18-20, 2013, in Yukawa Institute for Theoretical Physics, Kyoto University. The primary focus of this symposium is to address and promote the research of this new interdisciplinary field "active soft matter" in the east Asian zone. The term "active soft" is used here in a rather broad sense, so the symposium will find novel and exciting intersections of softmatter physics, cell biology, pattern formation and fluid dynamics from the viewpoint of mechanics and statistics of living matter.
